My First Week at Santy

The ApprenticeCongratulations are in order- for me.  I’ve beaten down the masses, showcased my sweet skills and managed to make a good, hire-able impression on the fine people of Santy Integrated.  I am officially the Account Services Apprentice- booyah.  Since I’m the new kid in school, I’ve spent the first week of my employment soaking up the environment and trying to make friends so I don’t have to sit alone at lunch and look like a total loser.  Every day has been an experience in my new, Godzilla-loving home, so I’ve decided to share some of the yummiest insights and tidbits. Enjoy.

  • On my first day I get the official office tour and learn the in’s and out’s of everyday life at Santy.  Copy machine, time sheets, extra staples, you get the idea.  But, my personal highlight of the day was when my tour guide pointed out the beer on the bottom shelf of the fridge (and my “recent college grad” heart smiled a little).
  • Besides turning out some awesome work for clients, I’ve noticed that Santy-ites seem to have a few other impressive talents.  These include (but are not limited to) incorporating animal sounds into the office background noise, sneaking up on unsuspecting apprentices with the Godzilla action figure, and making coffee multiple times a day.
  • These people know their stuff when it comes to social media.   So, now I will actually be expected to spend a part of my day on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and MySpace.  Sweet.
  • Epiphany: Wearing jeans to work occasionally actually makes me more productive! Thank goodness for a dress code that lets you be you.
  • It turns out that Tyra Banks was right (about one thing at least)- photo shoots are a lot of work!  Although, in our case, the subject/model was a video game controller, there was a TON of thought put into positioning, lighting and the message that was being delivered.  Very cool.
  • And finally, when in doubt, ask Janet.

So there you have it, a tiny little peak into my new life that is Santy Integrated.  There’s a lot of laughs, a lot of creative thought, and a whole lot of hard work and dedication.   In the words of that guy, who wrote that song, that was popular a couple of years ago, “this is the start of something good, don’t you agree?”. So wish me luck…this is going to be an adventure, and I’m psyched.
