PHX Design Week 09You’ve seen my obsessive retweets, my blingy avatar, my registration pleas come through on your Facebook feed and even the short rant on my own blog. But REALLY? What is this shindig and why should I attend another one of these industry events? Is someone’s molester-esque dad going to teach us how to use Facebook again? Am I going to be swarmed by a bunch of college freshman who want to learn Photoshop, so they can mass-produce fake I.D.s to their under-aged friends?

No.

Phoenix Design Week is a celebration of the local design community. It will include a variety of exhibitions, open houses, workshops, presentations, activities, films and other community-growth oriented events.”

Let me translate…Support Phoenix! Support design! Check out exhibits featuring new typefaces, logos brought back from the dead (I know you’ve all got one you’d like to resurrect), the birth of PHX LAYERS and sculptures made of paper. Snoop around in local design studios! Chain yourself to a desk and demand a job at the agency you admire most. Listen to the wise and experienced. Learn about interactive design, illustration, making design move, being green and why you should talk to your client like your mom. Get cozy with some beautiful films on typography. Meet and socialize with your peers. These are the people who will answer mind-blowing questions on your worst day, get you your next job and appreciate your greatest successes.

Why should I attend?

Support the community that supports you. The Phoenix advertising and marketing community has grown immensely over the past few years. There are more organizations, conferences and networking events than ever before, but this week is design’s time to shine. Help put Phoenix on the design map. Let’s build a respectable community with bigger whales and breathtaking design work and well, we might as well dedicate a week of fun doing it.

Come see us at Santy October 21st – 23rd for Phoenix Design Week exhibits!
